Tucked away in deepest Lancashire

Oaklands self-catering (& B & B) is run by Jane and Steve Collins who are charming, friendly, helpful hosts. The small cottage attached to the owners property is oldy worldly in the best sense. It has modern touches like wi-fi and 2 tv's (luxury, one in the bedroom) and a wood burning stove which keeps the cottage toasty warm. Everything you could need for a very comfortable stay is provided - from the quirky china and ornaments to a perfectly formed modern bathroom and super-comfortable bedroom. The hamlet of Wycoller is fascinating and very photogenic.

From the moment we arrived, we were made really welcome - homemade cake, jams, bread, and even a bottle of wine were left for us in the cottage. The inside was tastefully decorated, with all those lovely crafty things that you'd like to buy, if only they'd go with the decor of your own home. The patio area was a delight to sit in, surrounded by colourful floral displays, and the larger garden area was well maintained. The cottage is minutes walk from Wycoller village, where there's a lovely tea shop. There are also walks along the riverside. A short drive through beautiful countryside takes you to Colne, where there is a supermarket and several places to eat. There are also a number of good pubs within a few minutes' drive. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this as a great place to stay, which could easily be overlooked through not being in the major tourist areas. Do take a look!

Beautiful - once you can find it!

This is a lovely cottage in a wonderful location. The cottage is very well equipped and comfortable, and the local scenery is quite breath taking. The village itself is charming, with a wonderful ruined manor house and fabulous little café/restaurant which offers great pies to warm you up after a strenuous walk. One tip - the remote location defeated my sat nav and I needed to make a few calls to Jane who patiently guided us in. Take a good map or written instructions and your life will be a lot easier.
