Excellent Cottage. Excellent Location.

This cottage is in a remote location but makes for the best stay ever. Although you are very close to the coast the cottage is well sheltered and sits in a natural hollow which does involve a rather steep driveway. The owner was easy to contact and although unable to be there fo our arrival he made sure his in-laws were there to greet us. What a welcoming !!! Two very friendly people who really helped us settle in. The interior of the cottage was spotless and very cosy. A traditional cottage which has been sympathetically restored to include all mod cons. The pictures in the house give some idea of the family history helping to imagine what life must have been like. The oil fired central heating and under floor heating in the living room was a must for such an old house. There was a starter pack for the massive wood burner but more fuel would have been nice. However the local petrol station sold logs for a reaonable price. The picture window in the kitchen/dining room is amazing. Plenty of time spent sitting on the ledge with a good book. Even though the cottage is quite remote it feels completely safe at any time of the day or night. There is very little in Doolin other than the pubs but the area is made for walking. The walk from the cottage through the fields to the costal path is fairly steep and once on the old path it is quite mucky and definitely requires sturdy boots but the views are well worth it, including the cattle and sheep which appear to roam free. A short drive in any direction will take you to areas of outstanding natural beauty. We will defintiely return.

A historical cottage with stunning scenery

Booked this cottage as loved the remoteness of it and also the views you got from it. The cottage is much larger than it looks on the photos and has a very well equipped kitchen/dining room. The lounge has a great log burner and the owner has a fuel starter pack ready for you when you arrive. Towels and bedding are all provided along with a well stocked book library and lots of information leaflets about the area. The cottage is very clean, well thought out and in a fantastic location. There is a washing machine in the outside garage available for your use and even wash powder! From day one of the booking Paul the owner was in full communication and when we arrived in Doolin and got lost, he guided us easily to his cottage and provided us with lots of useful information and showed us how to walk from the back garden down to the cliffs without hitting any of the roads. It takes approximately 5 minutes to drive to the pubs from the cottage, all of which are excellent and have good food. Our favourite was McGanns. To walk from the cottage you will need to wear the hi-vis jackets left for you and take a torch as no street lights but a very pleasant walk during the day and takes only about 15 minutes each way. One thing to bare in mind is that although you can take dogs to this cottage, none of the pubs let them in and we have found this to be true in most of Ireland. We had a great week of sightseeing from here, Bunratty Castle and Folk Park is a must for anyone. Only thing I found disappointing was the Cliffs of Mohr, paid 6 euros each to basically park the car in the carpark and upon leaving discovered we could have parked for free off a lay by further down... dont waste your money. This cottage is ideal for anyone wanting to get away from it all and enjoy the peace and quiet and tranquility of the area. Please be aware though that the driveway to this property is steep and bumpy and could be a challenge to anyone elderly or with a disability... fine in a car. Well done to Paul the owner on his new venture... Im sure it will be a great success.

Renovated Irish cottage with stunning views

I really liked this place. If you want to get away from it all and find some spirituality then this is for you. Never mind the unpredictable weather - that adds to the experience. The cottage is warm - in all senses of the word - and is very spacious. The kitchen has plenty of equipment (no potato peeler tho'!), a couple of sofas (one is a sofa bed I think) with a massive picture window overlooking the atlantic and the aran Islands. If you're lucky and the weather is good you can see some stunning sunsets over the islands. The cottage has candles scattered throughout, books to read, iPod docking station, CD player, small tv (reception not too good, but that's typical of the area I think), lovely open fire. Bathroom is a wet room with a great showering area. The 3 bedded room has patio doors and overlooks the atlantic - stunning. The other room is in the original part of the cottage with thick stone walls and flooring and nicely styled. Gorgeous. Yes, the driveway to the cottage is very steep with a few bends so be careful. The grounds are very wild with cows grazing almost within touching distance. You can see loads of horses galloping across the fields and tussling with each other with the atlantic as the backdrop. We did try to walk down across the fields to the coastal path (towards Cliffs of Moher) but wimped out when we saw how muddy it was and the number of cows and horses we would have to negotiate. But that's just us. We're not adventurous. It is about a 5-10 minute drive to the nearest pub so bear that in mind. We wouldn't have walked or cycled as it was a bit too far with a youngster. Anyway, we weren't bothered as we spent a lot of our evenings reading, playing board games, drinking wine, eating in the cottage, chilling in front of the fire, looking at the skies, enjoying the silence. Bear in mind, if you want to be connected with the outside world, a mobile phone signal is almost non-existent at the cottage and there is no wifi access. Great place.

The cottage was perfect. The view of the ocean and surrounding landscape was fantastic. It was wonderfully private and quiet. I would recomend this cottage anyday.
