Cosy and Comfortable home from home

A lovely property, cosy and comfortable with lots of nice touches which made it home from home. The welcome pack of treats and local goodies was particularly appreciated. My girls, aged 7 and 3, loved their room, the books left for them to read and their own spotty crockery. The location is ideal, above a shop on the main street of the pretty market town of Kirkby Lonsdale. We'd arranged an online shop on our arrival, but Booths supermarket a couple of streets away contains everything you need. Add some treats from the bakery next door and Churchmouse cheeses at the end of the road, and you're all set. An ideal base from which to explore, we visited The Forbidden Corner, Kendal, Ambleside, Morecambe and Keswick, all easily do-able in a day with small children in the car.

Gorgeous accommodation in a lovely town

We organised a last minute holiday to Kirkby Lonsdale and luckily Parma Violet was one of the appartments that was available. Firstly we all loved the town - we spent a day in and around it as the area in the valley itself is beautiful. No wonder Ruskin thought it the best view in England. The town itself is very pretty and has very interesting shops - bring lots of cash! We also found the location of the town was excellent for visiting both the Lakes and Yorkshire Dales and had some great days out using Kirkby Lonsdale as a base. The appartment was lovely - the photos on the website don't do it justice. It was tastefully decorated and had everything you need for self-catering. The owner seems to have thought of everything anyone would need and the welcome pack was very thoughtful with delicious local bread, local cheese, milk etc. We like to cook and bake and this was the best equipped kitchen I have ever seen in self-catering accommodation. You can buy all ingredients in the shops in town to cooking is easy. The kitchen is set up for a family of four eating comfortably round the table. The bedrooms are lovely and though much of the furniture is antique, we were delighted that the beds were brand new with excellent mattresses - we all slept well. The one downside of being so central in the town is that noise from the street below reaches the bedrooms easily - but only if the windows are open. We were there during a heatwave so open windows were a must. There are a lot of steps so be prepared! This was one of the best holidays we have had in the UK and it was at least half due to the apartment.
