Charming rural hideaway

The Manor Farm Cottage is very well finished and spacious, with plenty of charm. The owners were friendly and helpful without being overbearing. The location is ideal for exploring the stunning surrounding countryside and Exmoor is only a few miles away. The drive across the moor to the coast is quite magical. Somerset is a very rural pretty place and is sometimes under appreciated...some people just drive through on the way to Devon or Cornwall, not realizing what they are missing. The west country does not have total coverage of mobile phone signals and this is the only problem we encountered...this can be an advantage!

wonderful week

A beautiful cottage in a beautiful part of the country. Owners could not have been more helpful. Very peaceful village but within easy reach of exmoor and the coast. Cottage was spotless - massive fireplace and woodburner if you needed it. Dog loved it too

Peace and comfort

A very well equipped cottage in a peaceful location. Ideal for exploring central Somerset and within easy reach of the coast. The log burner is lovely to relax in front of after an active day. The whole experience was delightful and we had a very refreshing, comfortable stay. Friendly but not intrusive hosts and a generous welcome pack provided, the cottage was very clean but also practical for taking the dog.

Beautiful and charming - the perfect getaway cottage

This is a charming and very well maintained cottage in a peaceful rural setting, but still within easy reach of civilisation. It’s ideal for those seeking a bit of seclusion and the opportunity to get away from all your modern trappings! The property itself is located within the tiny village of Huish Champflower, set amid rural Devon countryside, and offers lovely views from the front across hills and farmland. Inside it is very homely with exposed beams, a fantastic wood burner set in the original bread oven fireplace and modest decor that compliments the style of the building perfectly. All too often you see lovely character cottages ruined by the owners attempting to dress it like a modern building - not so in this case. Though kitted out with all necessary amenities, and clearly decorated fairly recently, the cottage still retains its character and feels very cosy inside. We stayed here for a few days during the first week of January, and spent most evenings curled up in front of the wood burner with a glass of wine, it really was very relaxing. In terms of the basic features, both bedrooms are a good size, though the master room is twin mattresses pushed together rather than a proper double/king bed. There is a family bathroom with a decent sized bath, and a separate en-suite to bedroom 2 which has a pleasingly powerful shower. Both appear to have been installed fairly recently. The kitchen has all the necessary appliances and was supplied with basics such as teabags etc. The owners had even left a bottle of wine in the fridge which was a lovely welcome gift. Philip & Georgie were the perfect hosts, stopping by a few hours after our arrival to talk us through the heating controls and instructions for the wood burner etc, after which they left us to it. They were also more than happy to offer advice on walks and places to eat when we asked later on in the stay. The notes they have compiled for guests were very helpful, and we took one of their recommendation on places to eat which turned out to be a fantastic meal. In terms of the local area, we found plenty to do in the short time we were there. Being close to Exmoor national park there a number of picturesque towns and great walking nearby. The local reservoir is a short drive from the cottage and makes for a good walk, though it is steep in places. We continued the relaxation theme by identifying plenty of local pubs with roaring log fires to camp out in, and bought food from delis and farm shops to enjoy back at the cottage. One word of warning for those who don’t like to be completely cut-off: as a Vodafone user I found myself with no service virtually everywhere we went. Though my wife fared better as an Orange user, neither of us got reception inside the cottage itself (which was a blessing to us!). Highly recommend holiday and we will definitely stay again in the future.

Warm, spacious and very comfortable

Lovely setting. Good well equipped cottage. Owners available but not intrusive. Small village, no amenities and no footpaths. Good walking country with some on the door step. Roads round about are narrow and windy. I found them fun to drive on. Good location for touring both inland and seashore.
