Large quirky apartment!

Had a great time staying in the Auction House. The apartment has lots of period features with modern touches and stunning sea views across to Criccieth Castle on the headland. The owners are very friendly and provided cake and tea bags on arrival which was welcome. The accommodation was very spacious and can comfortably hold 11 people. The location was good with lots of shops close by and a 5 minute walk to the beach. It is a good central base for exploring attractions in North Wales. Overall a really fun and beautiful place to stay.

Brilliantly bonkers, fabulous and well appointed.

Located in the delightful village of Criccieth this is a wonderful place for a getaway. This property is effectively an apartment in the top two floors of the auction house (a former Methodist chapel), and that connection is apparent the moment you open the door. Everyone who walks in goes 'wow', the sheer size of the main living space is one thing, but it's the object d'art that make the place so fabulous. I would describe it as Victorian gothic - faux medieval, with suits of armour, paintings, and a menagerie of wonderful taxidermy. A fireplace and comfortable sofas provide a cosy spot in which to enjoy the gallery of interesting things. There are five bedrooms in all which range from luxurious to comfy and functional. The top floor has a double with a view of the castle and small en-suite and a twin room - ideal for a family of four. The downside of the top floor is that it is accessible via a narrow spiral staircase - definitely not disability friendly, and the double room can get chilly with the draughty round window. The family bedroom (for 3) on the main (first) floor is beautifully appointed with a wonderful full en-suite bathroom to luxuriate in. The other common bathroom is similarly appointed and the remaining smaller double and twin are also good if a little less extravagant. There is a wide range of ostentatious antique furniture throughout which strangely doesn't seem to clash with the modern appliances as you might imagine. The dining room has a wonderfully long table with a large kitchen with more drawers than you know what to do with. Smeg appliances are a nice touch, especially the large range cooker. It can be hard to find objects in the kitchen at first, and these could do with a full review - more sharp knives and lids for pots please! These are minor niggles though. We stayed with ten people all told including three kids under 10. We thought the lack of garden would be an issue, but the size of the property gave the kids plenty of room to play. That said it's not ideal for very young children 5+ is best. Parking was mostly ok, with private space for one or two cars in a spot opposite, next to a larger public car park. The large TV could have used a DVD player, but we brought a Chromecast and iPads to use with the decent broadband connection. It's worth mentioning how lovely Criccieth is too. As well as a good number of pubs and restaurants you can see what a real high street used to be like before big supermarkets. Welcoming butchers, grocers, and bakers shops sit alongside craft and gift shops to ensure the basics of living are taken care of as well as the needs of tourists. It's a great base in which to explore Snowdonia and the Llŷn peninsular. In summary be prepared to be amazed and in awe of this genuinely unique property. A lot of love and money has gone in to making it special. Stuffed animal heads, birds and foxes are not to everyone's taste so be aware of this. However if you want a special venue for a get together with friends or family or a base to explore the wonderful sights of north west Wales you'll be hard pressed to find a better place to stay.

Phenomenally outstanding - this property surpasses all expectations with fresh flowers to greet guests, black toilet roll to add to the quirkiness and the most amazing decor. The Auction House must be seen to be believed and my friends/family repeatedly thanked me for finding somewhere so spacious even for 11 people, including 2 little ones. To add to the authenticity, for 2 nights a bat popped in to visit us and he was a very welcome guest! Each time we had a query, the owners were very quick to respond plus as there is so much to see and do in the area, the property makes an excellent base. You will be exceptionally lucky to check in here as words really cannot describe how wonderful it is.

Great entertaining space for large group

Enjoyed a great week at The Auction House with family to celebrate my birthday. This is a completely wacky place with plenty of space, luxury bathrooms and great location. It was very clean and the individual touches such as tissues in every room, starter pack and well equipped kitchen made it all the more enjoyable. Criccieth is a great location for travelling to other coastal resorts but has plenty to see and enjoy in its own right.
