"Excellent"

We have just returned to australia having attended our daughters wedding and stayed for two weeks at this cottage. Its location is excellent to explore whitby and surrounding countryside. We had peace and tranquility with superb accommodation which provided us with everything we required. The cottage was clean and warm for you wintery nights! Would certanly book this accommodation again and recommend to other travellers. Many Thanks Mike & Lorraine Linacre Perth Western australia

A nice weekend under the old viaduct.

Cracking little place to stay, just outside the middle of Whitby; about ten - twenty mins walk I think. Biffins Berth is part of an estate of maisonettes on the river bank, with a childrens play park and an indoor swimming pool for the use of visitors.

Lovely cottage in a stunning location.

Stayed at the end of June with my wife and our retired guide dog . The cottage met all our requirements and was well presented and ideal for a small family group. The whole area was a pleasure to explore and the steam hauled train passing through each day added to the enjoyment..

Shame about the Beds

A beautiful location , and a very nice House with all you may need. However , we shall not stay again unless they improve the bed !It was creaky , and the thinest most uncomfortable mattress ever! That ruined our stay.We woke up tired as it took so long to get comfy. Then woke with bad backs . Im not being overly fussy, I was in the Forces and have slept in allsorts of places. Shame because other wise this is a loverly place.

Picturesque location for a family holiday

The location of Biffins Berth is really superb, in a group of cottages on the lower level set in a well managed green space close to the river Esk, railway line, & viaduct. Although within a mile of Whitby, it's very peaceful with a rural feel. You can walk up onto the viaduct and into Whitby along a track, or to Ruswarp along a field path.On the site there is a children's playground, small indoor swimming pool, laundry room with washers, tumble dryers and ironing facilities. The cottage itself is very small but quite well laid out with a comfortable sitting and dining area. The kitchen is really too small so lacking in storage space and worktops, so we had to store some of our food packets eg. cereals in the corner of the living room. There were a few things missing which we had expected to be there, a teapot, fruit/veg knife, fruit/salad bowl, and not enough small plates for 4 people. The large number of glasses could have been reduced to give more space in the cupboards. The main bedroom also lacks storage space for clothes so we found ourselves living out of our case. The children's bedroom did have a chest of drawers and cupboard. The bathroom could do with a revamp as it did not have a shower apart from a plastic one which had to be attached to the bathtaps, and the sealant at the edge of the bath was a strip of wood which was starting to rot. We had to provide our own towels & bathmat. In spite of these minor problems we had a great holiday with our grandchildren - there was plenty of space for them to play out and meet other children, they enjoyed the swimming pool and watching the wildlife on the river and the steam trains passing. It was a convenient location for the short drive or walk into Whitby, a drive to Danby Lodge near Lealholm where there are activities for children and a museum and play area. One highlight was canoeing which is close by at Ruswarp. The people who run that are very friendly & helpful. I would definitely recommend this location and site for a holiday for young families. We would probably go back but would prefer a slightly larger cottage, still on the lower level by the river.
