Shropshire is possibly best known for its Engineering history, with the famous Thomas Telford being the Surveyor of Public Works in 1787. Telford became the architect for the renovation of Shrewsbury Castle and Shrewsbury prison, both would be great places to visit while on your cottage holiday! Some other engineering marvels to visit are the spectacular cat iron bridge that spans the the River Severn in Ironbridge, and The Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, which carries the Llangollen Canal 126 feet over the River Dee.
