Polperro harbour is still a working harbour and in the past had a reputation for being a thriving smugglers safe place. You can watch the fisherman mend their nets and unload their daily catch from their colourful boats; you could purchases some fresh fish to take back to your cottage for your evening meal. Daily fishing trips and boat rides to Fowey and Looe, set off from here.

There is plenty to do in this small village, with its charming muddle of traditional coloured fisherman cottages. The twisting village streets offer old fashioned pubs, good quality restaurants and cafes serving a good range of locally caught seafood. There are also a variety of gift, antique shops and art galleries.

Polperro Heritage Museum of smuggling and fishing, positioned in the Warren overlooking the harbour, this museum has a collection of smuggling and fishing exhibits, plus memorabilia and 19th century photographs. The museum tells the story of this Cornish fishing village, with its unusual history, including smuggling of contraband in the 18th century, dodging the customs boats along the way.

 

Pinetum Park and Pine Lodge Gardens has over 6000 plants collected by Ray and Shirley Clemo on their travels around the world collecting seeds and plants. These remarkable grounds have an amphitheatre of conifers and pines and a Japanese garden and much more.   Open all year round, dogs are welcome on a lead and it has a tearoom serving snacks.

Lanhydrock House in Bodmin is a wonderful country house and grounds, owned by the Robartes family. Follow in the foot steps of the past residents and view the fabulous book collection and incredible plasterwork. After a fire in 1881 the house was refurbished to a high quality Victorian standard, see how life was for the servants ‘below stairs’. Enjoy a Cornish afternoon tea or an oggie pasty in the restaurant.

Charlestown Shipwreck and Heritage Centre, has the largest collection of artefacts of this kind in Europe, with items from over 150 shipwrecks including the Mary Rose and new in 2012 the Titanic, collected over the last 50 years. For any children visiting the centre, there is an I Spy trail to keep them busy.

A self catering holiday cottage in Looe is the perfect place for a family holiday or well earned weekend away.   East Looe beach is great for entertaining your younger party members with a bucket and spade, where as West Looe is equally good fun with its rock pools, ideal for beachcombing. For the more active holiday maker then why not try snorkelling, wreck diving or fishing or just relax and enjoy the sea air on these safe sandy beaches. The town has gift shops, galleries, boutiques and restaurants to enjoy the local catch or a Cornish cream tea.

The small quiet village of St Keynes is nestled in the valley which leads down to the town of Looe, 4 miles away.
