Visitors to the Isle of Wight often remark on how it reminds them of what England was like generations ago, which is possibly one of the many reasons why people return to rent Isle of Wight cottages year on year. With much of the island being an official Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and over fifty miles of coast to explore, the Isle of Wight is a phenomenal location for walking and hugely popular for bird watching.

Reaching the Isle of Wight has never been easier, ferries are frequent (especially in peak season) and depart from a number of ports. These include Portsmouth, Yarmouth and Southampton and arrive at Fishbourne, Lymington and East Cowes respectively. The island is also known as one of the sunniest and warmest locations in England, so renting a holiday cottage on the Isle of Wight is a perfect way to escape the traditional English weather.

A visit to the Isle of Wight wouldn't be complete without strolling through a few picture perfect communities and farmlands to really relax and enjoy a slower pace of life. Towards the west of the island there's also the 'Needles', three huge towers of rock which reach outward from the sea.

With half of the island being a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty the island is also a phenomenal place for sightseeing, walking and bird watching. Our selection of Isle of Wight holiday cottages are spread across the island so you're almost guaranteed to find a perfect holiday property in any part of the island you'd like to stay.

Considering the size of the island it is surprising how many famous things have and do still occur there. Cowes is host to the oldest regatta in the world known as 'Cowes Week'. Why not hire a cottage in the Isle of Wight to experience the fantastic 'Cowes Week' regatta? The Island also hosts the 'Isle of Wight Festival' which has some of the best music artists in the world performing. Indeed the Isle of Wight has (and continues to) play host to quite a few celebrities from rock artists to royalty.

The Isle of Wight is most commonly known for its festivals. There are three major festivals held each year the 'Isle of Wight Music Festival', 'Cowes Week' and also the 'Rambling Festival'. However, if you don't make it to one of these there are plenty more festivals held throughout the year on the island. Each of the main festivals represents a different part of the islands character and personality. With so much going on though, accommodation on the Isle of Wight is often in high demand throughout the year and booking early is highly recommended.

The 'Rambling Festival' is popular due to its fantastic location. With over five hundred miles of footpaths combining both mountain footpaths and coastline trails, it is no wonder it was chosen as a location for this festival. If walking is your reason for going or if you decide that you'd like to spend a day exploring on foot, then the cliff-top path is definitely worth a try. This path goes through Chine and offers phenomenal sights and the opportunity to explore a fissure in the rock which leads to a 45-foot waterfall, cascading through the boulders and falls to the shore.

'Cowes Week' takes advantage of the Isle of Wight's great maritime atmosphere. This also means that the island is great for other water sports as well: sailing, windsurfing, surfing, kayaking, kite surfing and jet skiing are just some of the water sports on offer. The coasts are also home to some of the best beaches, perfect for relax by the sea in the sun. With many holiday cottages on the Isle of Wight being near the coast, it's only ever a short walk back to your accommodation.

The island is also great for all manner of sports and activities with leisurely coastal bike riding, mountain biking, llama treks, horse riding, and even off-road driving. You can also admire the island from the air with scenic flights available and paragliding on offer. These are highly recommended to give you the opportunity to really appreciate just how diverse the island is with its towns, historical monuments and beautiful areas all being on view.

Attractions on the island include bird sanctuaries, fun parks, Osborne House home to Queen Victoria, forts such as Saxon Fort, Roman Villas, Carisbrooke Castle, the Apollo Theatre and also pre-medieval dinosaur remains. Other more natural places to visit include Needles Park at Alum Bay and the Ventnor Botanic Gardens.

You can also admire large parts of the island by going on the Isle of Wight Steam Railway which will transport you through the rural landscape. There are also a number of golf courses on the island which have beautiful surroundings such as windswept mountains or stunning coastline.

There are a number of locations to stay at on the island and each caters to a different type of visitor and we have enough Isle of Wight holiday cottages in each area to suit the needs of anyone going to the Isle of Wight.
