Alternatively the Aran Islands which are reachable by ferry, about thirty miles offshore, contain interesting ruins of very old forts and churches.
Other activities in the area include golf, horseback riding, diving, sailing, deep-sea angling, bicycling, and ambling. Ballyconeelley Championship Golf links, Clifden boat club, Delphi and Killary adventure centres, The Station house theatre all offer superb days out for all the family.
The coastline offers not only superb scenery but also great water sports such as windsurfing, angling, waterskiing, swimming and also equestrianism too along the coast.
Nearby to the county within easy travelling distance is Kenmare which is on the Ring of Kerry, with scores of places to discover.
