Ile de France Cottages

The Ile-de-France is not really an île (island), of course. This green-forested buffer zone that enfolds Paris is only vaguely surrounded by the three rivers that meander through its periphery. Paris crowns this area with the rest of the area being peppered with pretty villages and grandiose châteaux. Ile-de-France offers a rich and varied sample of all you can expect from France including cathedrals, painters' villages, lavish palaces along with the pink turrets of Disneyland Paris—and all delightfully set within easy day trips from Paris.

Visit Auvers-sur-Oise where the Oise River runs northeast from Paris and where Pissarro, Cezanne and Carot where some of the many painters who loved this area. Barbizon is on the edge of the 62,000 acre Forest of Fontainebleau and has wonderful art galleries to visit. Chantilly is famous for its lace and cream and is a town not to be missed.   You will also be able to visit the Cathedral in Chartres. Don’t forget to visit Compiegne which is easily accessible from Paris’ Gare du Nord station and only takes 45 mins. Of course, if you have children in your party, after a leisurely breakfast in your apartment explore Euro Disney at Disneyland Paris. The small village of Giverny is an absolute must for art lovers as you can visit the beautiful house and gardens of Claude Monet. Actually re-enact one of his most famous paintings and stand on the little bridge with the water lilies! Fabulous. One of the most gorgeous residential towns in the area is L’isle-Adam which is just 25 miles south of Paris. On your travels try to see Senlis which is an exceptionally well preserved medieval town with streets that are a maze and crooked dominated by the huge spire of its Gothic Cathedral. Thoiry is most famous for its 16th-century château with beautiful gardens, a wild-animal reserve, and a gastronomy museum – just a day trip from Paris.,   No visit to France would be completed without a visit to the Chateau de Versailles where Louis X1V and 20,000 of his courtiers lived.
