Hillyground Cottage Holidays comfortably sleeps 3 people.
We are in Sturminster Newton, in the heart of the Blackmore Vale, ideally placed for:
- walking, fishing, cycling; nature reserves and wildlife.
- the Jurassic coast, England's first natural World Heritage Site, 85 miles of stunning coastline from East Devon to Swanage.
- seaside towns of Bournemouth, Poole and Weymouth.
- pretty villages and market towns, including Shaftesbury, Wimborne, Dorchester and Sherborne.
- historic houses and gardens, including Stourhead, Abbotsbury, Montacute, Tintinhull.
- ancient hill forts and ruins, including Stonehenge, Avebury, Hambledon Hill, Badbury Rings, Maiden Castle.
- Hardy's Wessex, and other literary connections including local dialect poet William Barnes.
- lots of family activities, including many animal parks, adventure parks, oceanarium, zorbing and other energetic pursuits.
The two self-catering cottages, Rose Cottage and Jasmine Cottage, are situated in the grounds of a Grade II listed thatched cottage dating from the 15th century, in the peaceful hamlet of Newton, just outside the market town of Sturminster Newton. The cottages are surrounded by over an acre of meadow and gardens, overlooking the River Stour and Newton Mill.
The cottages are single-storey stable conversions, re-clad in the original elm to retain their original character. Each cottage sleeps three people.
Each cottage comprises:
· Kitchen/diner/lounge
· Main bedroom with one king-size (6 ft wide) or two single (3 ft wide) beds
· Second bedroom with one single bed (3 ft wide)
· Bathroom with shower, toilet and washbasin
The cottages are well-equipped, including electric hob and oven, fridge and freezer, microwave, kettle and toaster; TV (including freeview channels), DVD player, radio/CD player.
Linen and towels provided.
Washing machine available.
Well-behaved pets welcome.
No smoking in the cottages.
Use of gardens, with seating and picnic areas and views of the river and mill. Garden furniture and BBQ available.
Accessibility: the cottages are single-storey, with level floors throughout. There are two steps to the front door, for which ramps are available. There is ample parking outside the cottages on a flat paved driveway.
Sturminster Newton offers many facilities, including a supermarket, butcher, baker, greengrocer, off-licence, cafes, pubs, an Indian restaurant and takeaway, two Chinese takeaways, a fish & chip shop. Our nearest pub is three minutes' walk from the cottages, and provides good pub meals.
