These three cottages are spectacularly located and as well as exuding considerable charachter are also of a high standard. One, graded the maximum 5 Star is 3 bedroomed, each bedroom having a spacious en-suite and is between 500 & 700 years old with Inglenook fireplace, mullioned windows and original beams exposed! The other two cottages, Dove and Manifold, graded in the top half of four star, are one bedroomed, (one sleeping two with an en-suite, one sleeping three by adding an extra bed when required in the bedroom) with modern tasteful ambience. These two cottages have full sized bathrooms with showers over. They also have atmoshperic and effective log effect stoves in the living room (Knowl has the open fire) All have fully controllable central heating, quality real stone sinks, gloss worktops, hard wood kitchen units and top of the range laminated floors of the highest quality (where not carpeted). In the courtyard there is a barbecue and laundry room and provision for off-road parking of cars. There is some limited outdoor seating area with flower borders. In the front is a delightful cottage garden. Most importantly housekeeping is our highest priority, the cottages have been awarded an almost unheard of 100% for standards of cleaning in the grading process. In each cottage there are nine(!) personalised highly organised information folders, much praised, enabling guests to make the most of their stay. Weekly events lists are supplied between May and the end of October. All three cottages have full Sky programmes (sports and film package included) and wifi Hartington is one of the most highly regarded villages in the Peak, famous partially for its geese pond, old Jaocbean hall and fine old stone buildings but more so for the outstanding walks in the immediate area

The approach down a long dale to the village from the main road really takes some beating. There are numerous footpaths and bridle ways in the immediate vicinity, offering unrivalled walking in the best part of the White Peak. The highly popular Tissington Trail, which runs for 17 miles, is used by walkers, cyclists and horse riders, and is just 1 mile from the cottages. Two further trails, the High Peak Trail and the Manifold Valley Trail (both of similar distance), are within 2 miles. These three tracks are ideal for family cycling as is the network of quiet minor roads, which can be accessed at numerous points along the trails. These former railway lines have much else to offer, not least quality views, but also interesting viaducts, steam beam engines and other remnant of the past. Sustrans National Cycle Route 54 also passes close to the village. During the day Hartington becomes remarkably busy due to its wonderful location which has the advantage tha there are numerous facilities (several tea rooms, two coaching inns, two grocers/newsagents, cheese shop and gift shops) but in the evening miraculously almost always all goes quiet. Hartington is located in that part of the Peak District known as the White Peak. This is the area of rolling countryside, dales, streams and rivers, limestone villages and dry-stone walls, which give the area so much character. (The Dark Peak to the north is mainly moorland) Hartington’s central position within the White Peak is confirmed by its equal distance, namely 10 miles, from Buxton, Matlock, Bakewell, Ashbourne and Leek, all towns on the perimeter of the White Peak at different points on the compass.

Peak District

Our selection of Peak District cottages is one of the finest on the web. Peak District cottage holidays are an incredibly popular holiday choice, and with good reason! The Peak District was the UK's first region to be designated as a national park and is one of the most visited national parks in the world. The region gives the visitor a wonderfully assorted vista of moorland and limestone caves, in addition to splendid towns and communities, and multiple medieval country homes. The Peak District provides the perfect backdrop for your self catering cottage holiday.
