Donegal Cottages

County Donegal is one of the counties in Ireland where you will find that the culture has been retained with the first language in many of the areas within the county still being Gaelic.

Along with the language you will also be able to find in many places traditional music being played by either a band or a lone fiddler which really will get you in the spirit of the community during your cottage holiday. The wild surroundings will also give you a strong feeling of the rustic location you have picked should you decide upon a holiday rental in Donegal.

County Donegal is a great family holiday location with plenty on offer to entertain and appeal to everyone. It is a hill walkers paradise with the Glenveagh National Park offering huge areas of woodland, lakes and peaks. These can be enjoyed on bike, foot or even boat if travelling on the lakes is more enjoyable for you. The mountains also provide the chance to go mountain climbing with the Eastern Derryveagh Mountains a must for activity enthusiasts. The terrain also offers great opportunities for those who enjoy golf and also those who enjoy fishing.

The county is home to some magnificent historical sites with some being the oldest in the country. The Kilcooney Dolmen and the round fort at A Grianan Aileach are possibly the most amazing places to go to with plenty more to go to as well.

The coastline in Donegal is lined with sandy beaches with Ardara and Nairn beach being two of the best in Donegal. Nairn Beach has a blue flag and with its situation is perfect for those who wish to go for a swim as it is in a sheltered cove. Maghery Beach alternatively offers the chance to explore the caves when the tides are low. All along these beaches there are shops and pubs for if you get hungry or thirsty.

The coast also gives the chance for sports too with surfing, diving and angling being popular. The sea angling from either shore or boat is brilliant in the area with people going from all over for the coarse and game angling.

A holiday rental in Donegal is a great way to explore the area. Letterkenny is the county's capital and is the main place in the county for commercial and cultural trips. Alternatively Donegal Town is a community situated on the shore side of Donegal Bay if you would prefer a water front holiday. The area is one of the more remote in the country but can be accessed via either air or sea with using a car for transport once you get to the country
