Although County Leitrim is an inland County it is defined by its waterways and is the perfect holiday location for those who love water activities. The Shannon Erne Waterway, which is the longest inland navigable waterway in Europe, stretches throughout the county and is a great place for canoeing and kayaking.
If water sports aren't quite your cup of tea, County Leitrim has no shortage of friendly local pubs where you are likely to happen upon an impromptu traditional music session the likes of which you have never seen!

Equestrian sports are also on offer with Doherty's Trekking Centre in Letirim Village being very popular with visitors.
The county also has a number of historical sites and museums such as Parke's Castle, Dromod Steam Railway, Sliabh A Iarainn Visitor Centre, Kinlough Folk Museum, Lough Rynn House as well as a number of abbeys. Other sites worth a visit also include the Glencar Waterfall, Corracloona Megalithic Tomb and Swan Island Open Farm.

It is located on the main crossing point on the Yellow River and is surrounded by places such as Corraleehan, Aughnasheelin, Fenagh, Aughawillan and Drumreilly. Carrick on Shannon is good for pleasure cruising and boating and its Costello chapel is the second smallest chapel, in the world. Whilst Drumshanbo is close to the arigna Mountains so is ideal for walkers as is Manorhamilton. The area is also accessible as it is close to Sligo, Dublin and Shannon airports and has a number of railway stations.
