Blue Flag Awards 2014: Thanet In Kent And Sandbanks In Poole Deserve A Special Mention

Thank you to iKnow UK for this picture.

Keep Britain Tidy have announced the winners of the 2014 Blue Flag and Seaside Awards. A total of 168 awards have been handed out to beaches across England, with 56 receiving the Blue Flag, 112 picking up the Seaside Award and 23 holding both awards. These awards reassure visitors that the winning beaches are regularly maintained to ensure consistently high standards of cleanliness and the water quality meets the highest international standards should you feel the urge to take a cooling dip in the sea.

For the second year in a row, Thanet in Kent is the clear winner. It has the most Blue Flag beaches with 7. The likes of Poole, Torbay and Bournemouth is Thanet’s nearest rival with 4 Blue Flag beaches each. Of course, Web Cottages has a great choice of holiday cottages in and around Thanet (you can see Ramsgate's long Main Sands beach in the picture above).

A special mention must go to Sandbanks in Poole, which has held a Blue Flag since the awards scheme was launched in 1987. Holding a Blue Flag award for 27 straight years is indeed some feat, so why not take a look at our cottages near Sandbanks and pay this beautiful beach a visit this summer?
